Barbells 50 MM

50 MM Barbells From SQMIZE® - Premium Barbells Designed for Competition and Training!

With Immediate Effect, All 27 MM, 28 MM, 28.5 MM and 29 MM Barbells From SQMIZE® Have a Lifelong Warranty Against Bending.

The barbell is the heart of free training. Classic sports such as Olympic weightlifting or powerlifting demand the highest quality and precision from our barbells. Like the brute strongman scene, modern crosslifting demands enormous resilience and endurance in terms of materials and components. Ambitious athletes and trainers can also look forward to a high-quality selection of dumbbells and special weight bars - with unique features! 50 mm barbells are our world. They are the focus of our delivery and manufacturing program. For many years we have designed and specified our barbells individually. We have been manufacturing the first 50 mm barbells in the south of Hamburg since 2019. This first step towards Made in Germany will be expanded further over the next few months.

In accordance with national and international standards, we offer the right barbell for women, men and young athletes. Draft, specification and design are created in Hamburg. Our team of athletes tests and uses our barbells every day - across Germany. In training and in competition, our barbells show that they keep their promises!

Everyone is talking about our barbell series like "Quantum", "Elite Bison", "Black Bison" and "Competition" - uncompromising in price and quality! SQMIZE® sets new standards for 50mm barbells, for the athlete, for you.

We have been manufacturing the first 50 mm barbell in Germany since February 15, 2019. It is the Powerlifting Barbell SQMIZE® HAMBURG COMPETITION OB86PL-HTz. As a result, we expanded the small production in Germany to include selected barbells such as the Quantum Unlimited and the Elite Bison Cerakote®.

In 5 Steps to the Right 50 MM Barbell!

The market for Olympic barbells is a confusing terrain. Anyone who values quality with a 50 mm barbell needs a checklist to separate the wheat from the chaff. Invest a short moment in these 5 steps and find the right weight barbell for you.

1. Steel - The Foundation of the 50 MM Barbell

The quality of the steel and the way it is processed are decisive quality factors. Special steels have the best prerequisites to meet a wide variety of requirements in terms of resilience and elasticity. The steels are adjusted to the desired properties through alloying and heat treatment. To name properties such as the maximum load capacity (e.g. 350kg, static) is good, but not sufficient. Information such as tensile strength, yield strength and, for higher quality barbells, confirmations from independent test laboratories are essential.

2. Tolerances, Dimensions and Weight of the Olympic Barbell

What looks the same at first glance shows clear differences on closer inspection. Important criteria here are slight deviations in length, weight and straightness. Professional barbells can be recognized by their tight tolerances. They show very little deviations. The deviation in length should be a maximum of millimeters. A straightness tolerance of 0.2 - 0.3 mm must not be exceeded. Barbells should have a maximum weight tolerance of 0.2%. For higher quality barbells, this tolerance is even +/- 15g for 15kg and +/- 20g for 20kg total weight.

3. Bar Diameter and Length of the 50 MM Barbell

Due to anatomical differences between the sexes, the following standards have prevailed for Olympic barbells:
According to the requirements of the IWF (International Weightlifting Federation)

Men

  • Bar diameter 28 mm
  • Length 220 cm
  • Loadable sleeve length 41.5 cm
  • Sleeves diameter 50 mm
  • Shaft length 131 cm

Women

  • Bar diameter 25 mm
  • Length 201 cm
  • Loadable sleeve length 32 cm
  • Sleeves diameter 50 mm
  • Shaft length 131 cm

Weightlifters orient themselves towards these values. However, due to other sports, deviations from these specifications have become established for different applications. In Crosslifting®, 28 and 28.5 mm have prevailed. In the area of special babells, the bar diameter is between 27 - 30 mm, depending on the type. A competition bar in powerlifting / KDK has a bar diameter of 29 mm. For squats and bench presses, however, bars with 30 - 32 mm are also used. When deadlifting, barbells with excess lengths and individual bar diameters are used.
Determine for yourself where the focus is on training. Then choose the right bar diameter. Ambitious athletes quickly realize that several barbells can be necessary during training.

4. Coating of 50 MM Barbells

After alloying and hardening, steel is in a certain sense still in its raw state. It is unprotected against rust. Now the coating technology comes into play. Long-term and resistant protection (longlife) or just a nice look that doesn't last long - those are the big differences here. Our ranking list:

1. Hard Chrome

The undisputed number 1. Abrasion-resistant, maximum protection against rust. Easy-care.

2. Bright Zinc

Visually very attractive in matt silver, also good protection against rust and abrasion-resistant.

3. Chrome (Bright)

Abrasion-resistant and good rust protection. Black Chrome doesn't exist. Chrome is always bright.

4. Black Zinc

Good rust protection, sufficient abrasion resistance and good grip.

5. Nickel

Good rust protection and sufficient abrasion resistance.

6. Titanium

Good grip. Relatively abrasion resistant.

7. E-Coating

Lately e-coating has been promoted as the ultimate. How good is e-coating really? The quality of the process is decisive for e-coating. If it is not mastered, it looks like an ordinary coat of paint. Overall, e-coating has good corrosion protection, but has significant disadvantages in terms of hardness and scratch resistance, for example compared to zinc or chrome.

8. Black Oxide

Black thin film, less abrasion resistant, light rust protection, but very good grip. Mostly looks unsightly after a short time.

9. Ceramic colors like Cerakote®

Ceramic colors such as Cerakote® are currently in vogue. After a test phase of over 12 months, we entered the field of ceramic coating with Original Cerakote® in 2019. The results are to be proud of. On the basis of a great deal of expertise, these barbells are pretreated by us in Germany and ceramic coated with Original Cerakote®. Our original Cerakote® comes from the USA. We noticed that a number of vendors simply call their ceramic coatings Cerakote. Ultimately, this is a trademark infringement. Only Original Cerakote® should be named Cerakote. So we call our cheaper ceramic series simply Ceramic Series.

5. Bearing - The Heart of an Olympic Barbell

The quality and type of bearing defines the purpose of a 50 mm barbell. Therefore, making the right choice is a crucial feature when purchasing an Olympic barbell. Here is a brief overview of the main types of bearing:

Needle Bearings

Needle bearings are roller bearings with long cylindrical rolling elements, so-called needle rollers. They have a larger mounting surface than ball bearings and thus reduce the torque and thus the pressure on the hand and joints. In addition, their load-carrying capacity and resilience is greater than that of ball bearings. They are suitable for dynamic movements such as pulling and pushing as they rotate faster than bushings. So it's ideal for Olympic weightlifting.

Pivot Bearings (Bushings)

Bushings for 50 mm weight bars are available in bronze, copper and steel. Pivot bearings made of steel are the cheapest option and not recommended. Bushings made of bronze and copper are ideal as pivot bearings, they ensure the correct rotation behavior. Bushings, like needle bearings, are suitable for radial loads, but pivot bearings have different rotational properties. They are good for high loads and slow turning movements. Squats, deadlifts and bench presses are more static in nature, and a slow and controlled rotation is necessary here. This makes bushings ideal for powerlifting.

Hybrid Bearing

New sports such as Crosslifting® or other trend sports combine heavy static exercises from powerlifting with the dynamic movements of weightlifting. For this reason, hybrids consisting of needle bearings, bushings and ball bearings are also used for 50 mm barbells. This is how the advantages of two worlds are combined. The hybrid bearing enables a repetitive high load with good turning properties at the same time.

With these 5 steps, you should now be a good deal closer to buying your 50 mm barbell! But don't forget to take care of it!

Taking Care of Your Olympic Barbell

Proper care of a 50 mm barbell is not rocket science. A quick brushing and wiping after each workout - and at least once a month oiling the bearings! Remove sweat with a dry cloth and magnesium with a plastic bristle brush. Spray a little oil in the bearings once a month. We recommend the Anticorit from Fuchs for our barbells, which we offer cheaply in the shop as a spray. Barbells should be kept dry and as free of dust as possible. It is not more - little effort, but you will enjoy your 50 mm barbell in the long term.
