SQMIZE® Premium Bison SQ-R400 Studio Flat Bench
A flat bench has exactly one purpose, and it must fulfill that purpose without compromise: to remain stationary while you press. No adjustments, no joints, no locking mechanisms that give way under load. The SQMIZE® Premium Bison SQ-R400 is built for this one purpose—75 x 75 x 3 mm frame profile, 500 kg maximum training load, 43 cm bench height, tested according to EN ISO 20957, Class S.
Tested according to EN ISO 20957, Class S
The standard classifies stationary training equipment based on its intended use. Class H stands for home use, Class S for commercial gym use. The SQ-R400 has been tested to Class S standards.
43 cm bench height
The height of a flat bench determines your leg position during the press. If it’s too high, you’ll lose contact with the floor or have to stand on your tiptoes. If it’s too low, your hips will tilt out of alignment. 43 cm is the height that has become standard in competitive powerlifting because it allows trainees between approximately 1.65 m and 1.90 m to keep their full footprint on the floor.
In practical terms, this means: You build the bridge, place both feet flat on the bench, and the force from your legs is transferred to the bar. Anyone who trains on a 43-cm bench at the gym and a 40-cm bench at home knows the difference—the same load feels different.
Frame, Base Area, Load Capacity
The frame is made of 75 x 75 mm steel tubing with a wall thickness of 3 mm. That’s significantly more cross-sectional area than the standard 50 mm profiles found in the home gym segment, and it’s the reason why the bench has a weight capacity of 27 kg instead of 18.
The maximum training load is 500 kg, and the maximum user weight is 160 kg. These two values are listed separately because they answer different questions: The training load tells you how much weight you can load onto the bench, while the user weight tells you who is allowed to use it. In terms of both metrics, the SQ-R400 is never the limiting factor in your setup.
The legs are set wide apart. When doing one-arm rows or dumbbell presses with uneven weights, a lateral tilting moment is created—the farther apart the support points are, the less of that force is transferred to you. There are rubberized pads under the feet. They keep the bench in place on smooth floors and prevent the edges from coming into contact with the surface, which makes all the difference on vinyl, tile, or painted concrete.
10-cm-Thick Cushion
The cushion is 10 cm thick, 124 cm long, and 30.5 cm wide. The length covers your entire back, even if you slide all the way up for the bridge exercise. The width is the key factor: A narrow cushion causes the shoulder blades to extend beyond the edge and allows the shoulder girdle to sink in—with a 40-cm-wide cushion, the shoulders rest on it rather than gripping it.
The foam has a density of 120 kg/m³. This figure indicates how much material is actually in the cushion, and it determines how the bench will feel in its third year. Low-density foam gives way under repeated point loads and eventually develops a dent. The cushion is upholstered in grained faux leather.
Moving and Storing Vertically
27 kg is too heavy to carry and too light for two people. That’s why there are two casters on the rear legs and a carrying handle on the front. You tilt the bench by the handle, roll it into place, and set it down—all in one smooth motion, on your own, without straining your back.
At the head end, there’s an end cap on the frame tube. This is why you can stand the bench upright against the wall without the cushion touching the floor. When stored vertically, the cap rests on the floor, not the upholstery.
