Olympic SZ Barbell Bar SQMIZE® OB47B CrCN Carbon-Chrome Coating Black 

The OB47B is our Olympic SZ barbell bar in black. Solid steel, 119 cm long, weighs 7.25 kg, with a load capacity of up to 320 kg. The handlebar features the CrCN Carbon-Chrome Coating Black; the collars are ball-bearing mounted and finished in matte silver zinc. Built for arm and upper-body training that goes beyond occasional curls. 

Why the SZ shape relieves strain on the wrists 

A straight bar forces the forearms into full supination. During bicep curls, French presses, or close-grip rows, this quickly leads to strain on the wrist, especially as the weight increases. The curved design of the SZ bar rotates the hands inward by a few degrees. The wrist position becomes more neutral, the strain is distributed across more tissue, and you can train longer and with heavier weights without the wrist becoming the limiting factor. 

For classic strength-building exercises, this is the decisive difference. Curls in all variations, Scott curls on the bench, lying and standing French presses, upright rows, close-grip bench presses—the OB47B covers the entire arm and upper body workout and accommodates any 50 mm Olympic plate. 

CrCN Carbon-Chrome Coating Black on the handlebar 

CrCN stands for chromium carbonitride. The coating is applied in a vacuum and is only a few micrometers thick on the steel. That’s precisely its advantage: it doesn’t build up on the knurled edges and therefore doesn’t round them off. What you hold in your hand is the full knurled geometry, not a blunted version of it. Added to this is high abrasion resistance on a bar that is frequently gripped and set down. 

Visually, the result is a deep black with a subtle metallic sheen. The matte silver zinc mounts stand out clearly against this—a contrast that echoes SQMIZE®’s current design language. 

Solid steel with a 320 kg load capacity 

The OB47B is made of solid steel, not tubing. The static load capacity is 320 kg. This limit is not reached during training on an SZ bar, and that’s the point: The margin ensures that the bar retains its geometry even after years of heavy sets and does not become permanently warped. 

30 mm grip and ball-bearing mounts 

The grip diameter is 30 mm. This is slightly wider than on a standard barbell, which engages the forearm more during curls and rows and gives the bar a solid grip. The knurling provides excellent traction and holds even with wet hands. 

The mounts run on ball bearings. When switching between supination and a neutral position, the plates rotate with the movement instead of blocking it. This reduces torsion on the wrist and makes the movement smoother—especially noticeable during Scott curls and the lying French press.

Care Instructions 

Our barbell bars come from the factory with a protective layer of oil and plastic film. Remove the oil before first use with a dry, soft cloth. You can find further care instructions in the package insert and in our “5-Step Guide to Proper 50 mm Barbell Use.”
